So far; So good... or?

Although it has not been a very smooth journey, it’s been good so far. And NO, I did not take any road trips nor am I on a pilgrimage but that statement was made In reference to the issue at hand.  There has been very interesting developments to the issue of food prices in restaurants on the university of Memphis campus as it is no longer a mere research argument paper for my English 1020 class but now also a progressing movement actually aimed at effecting a change in this situation.

The fact that this whole episode is still an unwinding tale has assisted in how it develops as an argument, this has also helped in reporting and presenting stage by stage analysis of the situation as well as providing ready participants in each survey conducted to report the effects of these prices as well as food quality on the everyday activities of the students.

The diversity of opinions and multiple sides of the story as well as a limited base of reference seem to present a little difficulty; however, this is overcome by the emanation of a new side to the story, a new interpretation of known data or statistic as well as a new occurrence in this situation on a daily basis. Therefore there is always something to report about, something to make a concrete argument on, as well as something to add to this ongoing cause, as such I can safely conclude that it’s been indeed a good journey so far. Although, the end will always justify the means….. Over and Out!!!

King Martin, The Legend

Martin Luther King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail comes at a time of high injustice and segregation, as well as criticism from his own fellow clergy men. He addresses their concerns and points out to them his mission, and challenges in a highly informative, factual, and logical letter.

He carefully analyzes each criticism levied against him and gives interesting responses to each of them, never assuming but clearly stating facts. He involves a lot of quotes from the bible and creates images and pictures in the mind of the reader, a move which reaffirms his credibility and vast knowledge as well as appeals to the emotion of his audience.

He claims that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, while clearly defining just and unjust laws and making it a strong point in his argument. His words “sometimes a law is just in its face and unjust in its application”, presents itself as a true statement as well as an interesting irony.

In the end, for his entire struggle all he aimed at was summed up in that last paragraph. In those words “Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away and the deep fog of misunderstanding will be lifted from our fear drenched communities and in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty” is contained a lot of emotion, and hope for the future. The future he died fighting for, the very future we presently live. Martin Luther King Jnr, a true legend!!!

Food Prices on Campus

The students of the University of Memphis community have been forbearing a very disturbing plague in the present past; however the time has come to be set free and get what is indeed our right.
We have dealt with the outrageous prices of food in our restaurants on campus in the past, but it is now time to decide we want better. These prices rip us constantly of our hard earned money, financial aid and even dinning dollars; you don't think it is hard earned? Wait till you have to stand in that “much dreaded” line at wilder tower.

The school must have thought it was doing its students a favor by adding an unnecessary fee of $300 in the form of dinning dollars to the already skyrocketing tuition, however this has done more harm than good to these unsuspecting students as the "supposedly sufficient" amount barely crosses the half way line of the semester. Why? The “leaches” on campus charge double the amount on every other food item making the whooping sum of $300 seem rather irrelevant. The issue of the students dinning is in a worse state as students are basically confined to the same meals “week-in, week-out”.

Why is any of this important to any of us? If you plan to be alive to make that future you desire, you need to be fed in a healthy manner, at a healthy price. What do we need to do? Stand together in place of our ailing Students Government body and say no this “Daylight Robbery” which has beset us. The results? Better food, better prices, healthier pockets, healthier minds, great grades, and a greater future. Cheers.

Who am I?

Mystery man?nahh, Boogeey Man? negative. Basically the only feasible answer to this I am ME..satisfactory?? Definitely not.
Highly focused, strong willed, Abstract Intellect, funny, and fondly referred to as cocky, yea cocky (matter of fact that has become some sort of compliment to me). Well by now you know a bit of me, which is i live by sarcasm. Good first impression?? yes? no? well who cares.
Enough of the introductions, welcome to my blog. I'd rather you called me 'el', no questions, just follow instructions.
Oh one more thing, I'm African; This automatically implies that one of the ‘numerous’ discourse communities I belong to is the International community. The word numerous is in quotes because I probably belong or have belonged at one point in my life to about a million discourse communities (note the exaggeration please).  A little emphasis will be laid on the present communities in which I’m active, their similarities, and some of the differences between them.

The African Students association and My English 1020 class are the communities I will discuss. Both communities belong to a larger community which is the University of Memphis discourse community, and are made up of people. However they serve and stand for different purposes, one in a socio-academic manner and the other in an educative manner. As a campus organization, the African Student Association is aimed at bringing its students together to make a significant contribution to the larger discourse community to which we belong (the UofM) while the English class is a group of students coming together to gain knowledge needed in pursuit of a college degree.

So much more to say about this topics and myself, but for now; Over and Out!
